San Jose (AIF), July 20, 2006 – The American India Foundation (AIF) has named two new Board Members and new Trustees from the San Francisco Bay Area. These individuals will provide valuable direction as AIF continues to expand its programs focused on addressing the needs of marginalized communities in India.
Vinod Dham, co-founder and Managing Partner of New Path Ventures and AIF Trustee since 2001, has joined AIF’s Board of Directors as Chair of the Digital Equalizer (DE) Program. Mr. Dham, often referred to as the “father of the Pentium Processor” as a result of significant contributions made during his 16 years with Intel Corporation, has since become a leader in many philanthropic organizations in the Bay Area. As Chair of the DE Program, Mr. Dham will lead the program’s strategic direction and growth. The DE Program’s mission is to provide underprivileged children in India with the opportunity to enhance their learning through the use of digital technology in a scalable and sustainable manner. Through generous support from corporations, foundations, and individual donors, DE has made considerable progress and is expected to grow exponentially in the next several years.
Long time AIF supporters, Tushar and Reshma Dave have now become AIF Trustees. Mr. Tushar Dave is co-founder of New Path Ventures and former Vice President for New Ventures at Broadcom Corporation. Mr. Dave has also joined AIF’s Board of Directors as Chair of the Education Committee to provide guidance and direction to AIF’s education initiatives. AIF’s grant making efforts in education focuses on providing universal elementary education for children between the ages of 6 and 14. AIF’s goal is to ensure that ALL children receive quality education with a special emphasis on “left out children” such as children of migrant families, children of sex workers, and urban and rural deprived children.
Also joining the Trustee ranks are Vinod & Neeru Khosla. Mr. Khosla is a partner in the venture capital firm of Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield and Byers. He is a leader in the Indo-American entrepreneurial community and one of Silicon Valley’s most influential and successful venture capitalists. Mr. Khosla is currently a General Partner at Khosla Ventures, a venture firm that primarily invests in organizations that have significant “social impact.” Khosla Ventures dedicates a portion of all profits to charitable causes, with an emphasis on micro-finance, education, the environment and affordable housing.
