Ms. Chandrika Tandon - Founder
Ms. Tandon is Chairman of Tandon Capital Associates, Inc. an advisory and investment firm founded in 1992. Prior to this, she spent eleven years at McKinsey and Company, five of them as a partner, and has, over the years, worked with senior management in some of the most prominent banking, insurance, and securities industry entities in the world. Prior to joining McKinsey, she worked for Citibank in currency trading, operations, and branch management. She graduated from the Madras Christian College in India and received a Post Graduate Diploma from the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad, India. She is a contributor to many philanthropic causes and has a deep interest in livelihood creation for the underprivileged-especially women-and in the performing arts. She is a Board Member of the American India Foundation, chairing the initiative to create sustainable livelihoods among the rural and urban poor in India.
Ms. Ramya Narayanan -Executive Director
Prior to joining the League of Artisans platform, Ms. Narayanan was a Principal Consultant with PricewaterhouseCoppers in the Strategic Change Corporate and Operations Management Consulting Service. Her experience includes organizational restructuring, pricing strategy, business process reengineering, profit improvement, performance measurement and risk assessment, integration of business processes of combined companies and creating programs to improve performance of sales force.
Ms. Narayanan has a Masters in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1991) and an MBA from Cornell University (1993).
Ms. Benita Singh - Marketing & Sales Consultant, NY
Ms. Singh has been working in fair trade marketing and sales since she graduated from Yale University in 2004 with degrees in Comparative Literature and International Studies. She is co-founder of Mercado Global, a non-profit fair trade organization that links rural and underprivileged women's artisan coops throughout Latin America to the U.S. market. She has been named among the "World's Best Emerging Social Entrepreneurs" by the Echoing Green Foundation, an "Outstanding Youth Leader" by the International Youth Foundation, and received the "Leadership in Innovative Ideas" Award from the Social Enterprise Alliance in 2005. Benita also sits on the Board of the World of Good Development Organization and speaks often on youth entrepreneurship and fair trade, including appearances at the World Bank and the UN.
Ms. Priya Patel - Marketing & Sales Consultant, NY
Ms. Patel is a graduate of Columbia Law School ('05) and Harvard University ('01). Ms. Patel recently returned from Gujarat, India, where she spent five months working closely with Gramshree, one of LOA's partner organizations. While at Gramshree, she designed products, managed production, and executed a marketing strategy for Gramshree's winter collection. She also participated in export and wholesale marketing activities and produced an international marketing catalog for Gramshree's home furnishings. Ms. Patel has a diverse background in international development - as a summer associate at the law firm of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, she participated in the Argentine debt restructuring; she has provided advice to UNICEF Nicaragua on draft laws and legal agreements governing the provision of potable water; and she has worked closely with UNICEF Bangladesh to plan and critique the organization's arsenic mitigation activities.
Ms. Pushpika Freitas -Marketing and Sales Consultant, Chicago
Ms. Pushpika Freitas, MarketPlace's Board President and Development Director, graduated from DePaul University, Chicago with a master's degree in Sociology. Upon her return to India in 1980, she established the German Leprosy Relief Association Rehabilitation Project and later she founded SHARE (Support the Handicapped's Rehabilitation Effort) in Mumbai, and she later founded MarketPlace: Handwork of India in Chicago in 1986. Pushpika has been responsible for growing and managing all aspects of MarketPlace. She has been actively involved in the Fair Trade movement and sits on the board of Serrv International and the Shanti Foundation for Peace.
