Access To Education Urban Livelihood & Microfinance
Saath, Gujarat (2006), ($46,364)
Saath, which means ‘together’, ‘co-operation’, ‘collective’, or ‘support’, is a charitable Trust working in Gujarat. Saath has completed 15 years as an organization working on initiatives for equity in development. In the urban settlements, it has been working since 1989. Its mission is to make human settlements equitable living environments, where all residents and vulnerable people have access to health, education, essential infrastructure services and livelihood options.
The current project supported by AIF, focuses on creating opportunities for alternate livelihood options for the vulnerable and lower income groups of the slums of Ahmedabad, by enhancing skills such that the livelihood intervention becomes self-sustained over a period of time. All the interventions are in the service sector, and none involve making products that then need to be marketed. Through the various projects, within a 3 year time period, 464 females (70.73%) and 192 males (29.26%) will be trained and placed in various jobs, with an annual increase of income by $ 22 - $ 66 (Rs. 1,000 – Rs. 3,000) per month. The project period is 3 years.
