Freedom Foundation, Karnataka (2004), ($19,200)
Freedom Foundation (FF) rehabilitates people suffering from drug and alcohol addiction, and offers HIV positive people opportunities to support themselves.

FF has been implementing an AIF-supported livelihood project focused on 9 HIV+ women and one HIV- woman, who are either widowed, or with husbands who are in the last stage of AIDS. FF has formed a Self Help Group of these women, and has initiated livelihood activities like making soap powder, dishwashing powder, and other detergent items. The project is about training of these women in their respective enterprises, and exploring forward and backward linkages, so as to enable them lead a life of dignity. These women have been able to get orders from various clients, and the project is doing well.
