Nidan, Bihar (2004), ($89,000)
Nidan was started in 1996. Nidan felt it was important to facilitate a broad based movement for recognition and implementation of rights of informal sector workers. Thus Nidan got engaged in organizing vendors, hawkers, home-based workers, rag pickers, construction workers, domestic maids, agricultural workers etc by taking up the issue of legal rights of these workers.

Freedom Foundation (FF) rehabilitates people suffering from drug and alcohol addiction, and offers HIV positive people opportunities to support themselves.

Prayas, Gujarat (2003), ($42,444)
Prayas works on improving livelihoods among the poorest sections of society in Jhabua district (MP), and Bhuj and Dahod districts (Gujarat). AIF’s grant is supporting the restoration of livelihood activities for 300 marginalized women in the town of Anjar in Bhuj district, who were affected during the 2001 earthquake.

Movement for Alternatives and Youth Awareness (MAYA) Organic, Karnataka (2004),

MAYA Organic, (through a previous grant supported by AIF – see past grants), has organized collectives of workers in the garments, lacware and the construction sectors, and has facilitated the formation of worker-owned enterprises.

Centre for Rural Development (CRD), Assam (2005), ($31,111)
CRD is a registered society. It was registered in the year 1994-95 with the initiation of a few young professionals who were already working in the field of rural development for some years. The Society, since its inception, has remained actively involved in developmental work for the poor and underprivileged of the North Eastern Region of the country.

Saath, which means ‘together’, ‘co-operation’, ‘collective’, or ‘support’, is a charitable Trust working in Gujarat. Saath has completed 15 years as an organization working on initiatives for equity in development. In the urban settlements, it has been working since 1989. Its mission is to make human settlements equitable living environments, where all residents and vulnerable people have access to health, education, essential infrastructure services and livelihood options.
