Govt Highschool, Cotton Hill The school is situated in Trivandrum city, capital of Kerala state. It was established in 1935 and has classes from 5th to 10th and also a higher secondary section. The total strength of the school is 5200 and all of them are girls. The student strength in high school section (8-10) is 2150. Here the teachers total upto 169. Out of this 88 are high school teachers. These statistics make the school, the biggest girls’ school in Asia.
Out of the 88, around 40 teachers deal with IT subject. AIF has given training to about 35 teachers last year and all these are very enthusiastic in the DE program. Here AIF has supported the school by giving broadband internet connectivity, which the teachers are using it very usefully. Also AIF provided them with 29’ inch TV and Receive only Terminals for the reception of Victors Channel of Kerala Education Department, through EduSat Satellite. Almost all the high school teachers have Email ID and are also the members of Mail Group created for the 10 govt. schools of DE programme in Trivandrum. Most of them use the free hours in DE lab, for researching on Internet on their subject matters and the Principal and Headmistress are very supportive for the programme. The school also has a good Parent Teacher Association (PTA), which takes care of the maintenance of the IT infrastructure in DE lab. The PTA charges Rs.5 to 10 per student per month for the maintenance of the computers (except for SC/ST and other below poverty level students). The DE Coordinator and the school IT Coordinator have been constantly guiding and supporting the teachers and students on the use of computers.
In spite of being the school, which sends out the largest no of children for the board exams every year, the school boasts of a very high percentage of results every year (as high as 90%!). The teachers and the management feel that the DE program and the teacher training provided by AIF have indeed revolutionized the learning system in the school.

HS Poojappura. The school has classes from 5th to 10th. It has a total strength of 233, which includes 170 boys and 63 girls. The strength in high school is 84, which includes 70 boys and 14 girls. The total number of teachers is 12.
The students of this school come from very poor background and most of them are the children of daily wage labourers. Around 32 students from the nearby Juvenile home situated in a Central Prison, Poojappura are also studying in this school. Out of 32, only 4 or 5 are prison inmates who committed some kind of crime. The remaining are very poor abandoned children. The school authorities did not discriminate these children from the other students. These children come to school daily morning marching from the nearby Juvenile home. But the enthusiasm level of these students is very high. They are very keen on studying especially IT related subjects. Most of these students spent their free hours in DE centre. They prepared 8 entries for the AIF contest. AIF has provided this school with broadband internet connectivity. This made all the students much more enthusiastic and almost all the time DE lab is engaged. Most of them use internet for searching about the subject related matters, general knowledge related subjects, for pictures of film stars and cricket stars. They also created many projects as part of the academic duties. Most of them are very enthusiastic in participating in extra curricular activities, and also won several prizes in sports and youth festivals.
Here also the HM and other office bearers are very much supportive to the DE programme. In fact, almost all the teachers including the office staff and HM are participating in DE training every week.
