Ravi Srivastava's main areas of research and publication include human development, health and education, rural poverty and rural development, decentralization, labour markets and migration. He has worked in advisory/consultative positions with the Indian Planning Commission, UNDP, UNICEF, the ILO, World Bank and the ADB. In 2001, he was given the University Grant Commission's award in economics for innovative research on poverty. His major focus in education has been issues of financing and access.
Prof. Srivastava was advisor to SIEMAT, UP on the development of Educational MIS, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He was part of the inter-institutional team which participated in the UNDP's Research Programme on Access to Health and Education carried out in the mid-1990s, later published by Sage. He has recently completed a study on the Right to Education in India for the Centre for Development of Human Rights and Harvard University. As lead consultant for UP, he was also part of a team of researchers involved in a large research study by UNICEF/Government of India on elementary education. He is also the co-author of a book on costs and financing of elementary education, which is being published by Oxford University Press in 2006. He is also the coordinator and the main author of the first Human Development Report of Uttar Pradesh. From May, 2006, he is on deputation with the National Commission on Enterprises in the Unorganised Sector (NCEUS) as Member.
