An Economist by training, Shanti has worked for many years with poverty alleviation and social development projects funded by EC. She has worked in social and rural development programs in India, Nepal and Bhutan in a range of sectors such as education, health, gender issues, democracy & human rights in both government and NGO settings. She has played a special role in EC supported District Primary Education Program (DPEP) for reform of primary education in the country, followed by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).
