DR. DAYARAM

Aga Khan Foundation

Dayaram is Program Officer at Aga Khan Foundation. Prior to this he was Chief Consultant of Alternate Schooling, for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), the Government of India education initiative. His expertise is in education of marginalised children; he has played a key role in conceptualising local specific strategies for this category of children in the country. He has experience in issues of school reform, specially improving quality of learning which is abysmally low in government schools. His work has strong policy advocacy focus. He was instrumental in forming the National Core Group for deprived urban children with which are associated Ministry of HRD, Labour & Social Welfare, UNICEF, UNDP, NIEPA and major NGOs. Through NCG he was involved in developing city level plans for education of these children in many metros.

Dayaram held a senior management position with Lok Jumbish Project in Rajasthan. He has been on the National Organising committee of Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti (BGVS) a people's organisation to support National Literacy Mission, and played a key role in organising TLCs in Bihar, the most backward and difficult state in India. He has a lot of research to his credit, including the first study on the impact of para teachers in primary education– a hotly debated issue today.
