Sumit Bose is Principal Secretary to the Government of Madhya Pradesh in Finance. Previously, he acted as Joint Secretary to the Government of India (GOI) in the Department of Elementary Education and Literacy for five years and was responsible for drawing up and launching the scheme of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) the flagship program of the GOI for universalizing elementary education in India.
Serving in the government sector for nearly three decades, Mr. Bose has worked primarily on educational policy planning and management, particularly focused on basic education, both in the central and the state government. In the State Government, as Secretary of School Education, he planned, launched and implemented the European Commission and World Bank assisted District Primary Education Program (DPEP), the largest multi lateral initiative for primary education in India. He also ran the Total Literacy Program. He has consulted for the World Bank, Commonwealth Secretariat, UNDP and DFID on resettlement, aid coordination and primary education.
