DEBrief

Capturing Information, Documenting Growth
DE launches new tool “DEbrief”

The Digital Equalizer program has launched DEbrief, a new MIS tool to monitor its schools in time for the 2006-07 Indian academic year.  DE currently operates 642 centers in underserved schools across 12 states in India.  To date, the program has relied on the collective knowledge of its field staff and managers, a variety of documents spread across hard drives, and manually created websites to store information about its schools.  Additionally, its field staff has used MS excel files to send their managers status updates on school progress.

DE has an aggressive growth path (400+ new centers by the end of 2006). The program needs a more systematic process for capturing information and communicating effectively between staff and management – especially as DE grows to 5000 schools by 2008! DEbrief will serve this purpose, as a central repository for information as well as a means for internal communication.  It will be accessible to both internal (DE staff, management) and external (sponsors) audiences.  Ultimately, it will also generate professional-looking reports at the program, state, cluster, and school levels, which can easily be accessed and reviewed.

AIF thanks one of our Bay Area volunteers, Amit Bakshi, for spending six months in India to help make DEbrief a reality.
