Annie Koshi
Ms. Annie Koshi, Principal of St. Mary's School, did her schooling from All Saints School, Nainital and her graduation and post-graduation in English (Hons) from Lady Sri Ram College, Delhi. She completed her B.Ed. at CIE(Delhi) and has done her M.A. in Educational Management with emphasis on inclusion from the Oxford University. She specially trained in Testing and Evaluation as part of the CBSE ELT Project at the College of St. Mark and St. John, Plymouth , UK.
A devoted social worker, she actively advocates the cause of the disabled and has worked hard on introducing an Inclusive Education System which involves a schooling where physically, mentally, emotionally and financially-challenged children study in the mainstream,, a school where 'difference' is accepted and celebrated. As a social activist, she has been instrumental in bringing in legislation, changing methods of assessment for the visually-challenged in the Board Examinations as well as legislation that restrains the use of Government school teachers for any work like election duty, census etc.
Ms. Koshi is the Chairperson of the Sahodaya School Complex-South Delhi, a member of the Governing Body of the Central Board of Secondary Education, a member of the National Committee on Primary Education & Literacy constituted by the Confederation of Indian Industries, is on the Board of Directors of PRAVAH & Akshay Pratishtan, Karuna Vihar.
Ms. Koshi received the prestigious NATIONAL AWARD FOR TEACHERS, conferred by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, in the year 2004. She has also been felicitated by the National Literacy Mission for her educational leadership in the field of literacy, awarded the National Child Care Award, India Development Education Award and the Freelance Journalists & Writers' Association Award, twice, for her contributions in the fields of education, art and culture.
She has authored various books and writes poetry. Her interests include Theatre, Dance, Art and Music. She is an avid reader, and is fond of adventure sports such as trekking, river rafting, bunjee jumping and cycling.
Utpal Mallik
Dr.Utpal Mallik joined NCERT as Lecturer in biology (1975) with undergraduate (1965) and postgraduate (1968) degrees in Zoology and doctoral degree (1974) in Cellular Biology (1974) from Presidency College, Calcutta University. Post-doctoral research at the University of Maryland, USA in Cellular and Molecular Biology involved computer modelling of some bio-molecules (1979-1981). He also did M.Ed. from the University of Maryland (1981).
Mallik took to school computing in the early 1980s and has been involved ever since in formulation and implementation of policies for more than one educational computing programmes at the national level. During 1983-1996, worked on school computing as Reader and was selected Professor of Computer Education in 1996. Presently, heads the Department of Computer Education and Technological Aids, NCERT (since 1998).
As a member of the founding group, initiated school computing in India (1984) as Computer Literacy and Studies in Schools (CLASS) project of the Government of India. Authored the Software Framework and Software Specifications for the project and was responsible for procurement, testing, evaluation and dissemination of software for project schools conducted training programmes for teachers from all over India (1984-92). He also provided continuous academic support to teachers and students on essentials of school computing through his monthly columns in a popular computer magazine.
Utpal Mallik conceived and coordinated the project titled Teaching of modern biology and biotechnology in schools with computers as an aid, authored training guide for teachers, organised private software houses to develop and supply software to project schools. Funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, the project ran in 100 select schools all over the country (1989-92).
The international experience of Mallik includes his work as a consultant and a member of expert group with UNESCO to develop guidebook on educational software development for South East Asian countries; participation in international conferences, workshops, seminars and meetings in Australia, Japan, Thailand and the UK; and visit to leading educational software development centres in the UK with support from Charles Wallace Foundation in recognition of contributions made in the area of school computing.
To his credit, Utpal Mallik has a number of publications brought out by NCERT and international publishers, including UNESCO; a large volume of articles, papers, educational software and books for students, teachers, educators and the general public to promote the use of IT in education and propagate the rationale for technology use in schools. He authored the Curriculum Guide and Syllabus of IT in Schools. The document offered a rationale for the technology in general education and offered a framework for the technology-based activities, identified essential IT skills and ways to achieve them and the expected teacher competencies.
Vimala Ramachandran
Educational Researcher and Consultant
Ms. Ramachandran has in-depth knowledge of the primary education sector, national education programs and the NGO sector. She was the first National Director of Mahila Samakhya, when the program first began. She has carried out an appraisal of SSA, and is well aware of the needs of the education sector including SSA.
